11/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 December, the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Parliament held the first trilogue on the regulation on the removal of child sexual abuse material from the Internet (‘CSAM’), after the Council of the EU approved its negotiating mandate on 26 November (see EUROPE 13767/13). However, the trilogue was brief and essentially served as an opportunity to present the respective mandates. The Commission also took the opportunity to announce that it would be presenting a new proposal as soon as possible to extend the temporary derogation from theePrivacy Directive, which currently allows platforms to carry out voluntary content detection. According to the media outlet Contexte, this proposal is expected before Christmas. Work will resume under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, with Cyprus being one of the Member States most supportive of the mandatory ‘CSAM’ content detection orders.
