The ‘Global State of Citizenship Report’, published on Wednesday 18 June by the European University Institute’s Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT), provides for the first time an overview of citizenship laws in 191 countries between 2020 and 2024.
In Europe, there is a total absence of gender discrimination in legislation, unlike in Africa, where 53% of the population still lives in countries whose laws discriminate against women, or in Asia (20%).
