On Tuesday 17 June, the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine reached an agreement to determine the commercial exchange capacity that can be offered at the borders between the Ukraine-Moldova control block and neighbouring EU TSOs.
“This agreement is a major step forward in the implementation of the Eastern European capacity calculation region”, said the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) in a press release published on 18 June.
Since the emergency synchronisation of the electricity networks of Ukraine and Moldova with the synchronous zone of continental Europe in March 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, trade capacity has reached 1,700 MW from the EU to the Ukraine-Moldova bloc and 650 MW in the other direction.
The TSCNET Regional Coordination Centre will calculate the net transfer capacity available at borders on a monthly basis, starting in July 2025. The TSOs in the region are now responsible for determining the limits of trading capacity between Ukraine and Moldova and neighbouring EU countries. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
