11/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday, 11 April, the European Commission decided to extend its anti-dumping duty on monosodium glutamate (the sodium salt contained in glutamic acid, which is a food additive) from China to imports of this product from Malaysia. In 2024, it had received a request to investigate the circumvention of its [anti-dumping] measure from Ajinomoto Foods Europe, the sole producer of this product in the EU (see EUROPE 13458/29). The investigation enabled the European Commission to identify an influx of monosodium glutamate from Malaysia, which could not be justified any other way than by the anti-dumping tariff targeting China. It therefore concluded that it had reason to amend its measure so as to prevent circumvention. As a result, monosodium glutamate exports from Malaysia to the EU are now being hit with a definitive anti-dumping duty of 39.7% of the net border price.
