A new network aimed at encouraging elected politicians at local and regional level to become more involved in EU issues and highlighting the benefits it can bring to their communities was officially launched on Thursday 10 April, announced the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).
The EU Local Councillors Network already has 3,000 participants. The project, run jointly by the CoR and the European Commission, whose existing parallel initiatives have been merged to form the new network, aims to bring the European debate closer to local communities by engaging more effectively with mayors, regional presidents and regional and local councillors.
Membership of the network is open to any local or regional elected representative from anywhere in the EU. Members benefit from a range of products and services (training sessions and workshops). These tools are tailored to their own needs and interests and will enable the members of this network to communicate more effectively with their constituents on European issues.
