11/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) is not satisfied with the provisional agreement reached on Thursday 10 April between the European Parliament and the EU Council on ‘soil monitoring’ (see EUROPE 13619/1). CEJA recognised that the directive would enable better decision-making on investments in soil health and welcomed the absence of additional burdens imposed on young farmers. But CEJA is waiting for commitments from the EU that there will be no net increase in land take by 2050. The organisation pointed out that the loss of agricultural and natural land represents a threat to soil health, food security and the generational renewal of farmers. (FS)
