Commission continues difficult talks with automotive industry over a bonnet shape that is less dangerous for children and pedestrians in case of an accident - Binding Directive or voluntary agreement?

Brussels, 14/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has continued, these last days, tough talks with representatives from the automotive industry for the adoption of measures that will make the shape of car bonnets less dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists in case of an accident. It concerns defining the standards and testing procedures on the shape of bumpers, the angle of bonnets and the distance between bonnet and motor, so as to reduce the force of impact.
