Luxembourg, 07/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Court of Justice said, in a ruling concerning a Swedish case, that the preferential recruitment of women in public functions cannot be automatic or be solely based on the belonging to an underrepresented sex. Furthermore, their qualifications must, objectively assessed, be equal to those of male candidates. In this case, and only in this case, women candidates may benefit from a preference.
