New Commission guidelines will doubtless give rise to reticence or opposition on Monday in Council

Brussels, 07/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The General Affairs Council will be hearing Pascal Lamy on Monday. Mr Lamy will present to the Fifteen the major lines of the proposal adopted this week by the European Commission on 5 July with a view to finding a definitive solution to the dispute over bananas (see yesterday's EUROPE pp.9/10). Mr Lamy will seize the opportunity provided by this occasion to take stock of new US retaliatory methods.
