CEPS report on environment in candidate countries - Transitional periods will be necessary for them to apply Community norms and standards, considers Verheugen

Brussels, 29/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) has presented to Commissioners Wallström (environment) and Verheugen (enlargement) a report on the environment in EU enlargement ("The Environment in European Enlargement"). The report mainly stresses that EU enlargement will have a positive impact on the environment in candidate countries (and indirectly throughout Europe) given that accession criteria force applicant countries to gradually come into line...
