In Conclusions on Echelon, Council recalls interception of telecommunications can under no circumstances be used to gain commercial advantage

Brussels, 30/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - During the luncheon of the JHA Council on Monday, the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers as well as Commissioner Vitorino spoke of the Echelon issue. The Council published the following Conclusions at the end of the sitting:

"The Council had an exchange of views on the European Parliament's debates on interception of telecommunications outside of any legal framework.

The Council reaffirms its attachment to respect for the fundamental principles...
