Coup d'etat in Fiji Islands no doubt precludes signing of new partnership agreement in Suva

Brussels, 19/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The signature in Suva (Fiji Islands) on 8 June of the new partnership agreement between the 71 ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) states and the European Union has been seriously compromised. The coup d'etat on Friday in the Pacific archipelago caught the partners unawares and upset their plans.
