Brussels, 07/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission states in a report published on Monday that the Member States are showing serious shortcomings in their value added tax (VAT) control systems. Since the abolition of tax controls at frontiers in 1993, goods move from one Union Member State to another without being taxed, with VAT being paid solely at the final consumer level.
