27/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 27 November, the European Parliament urged Tunisia to immediately and unconditionally release the lawyer Sonia Dahmani and all those detained for exercising their right to freedom of expression. Immediately after the vote on the resolution, Ms Dahmani’s lawyer announced that she would be released from prison the same day. In the joint resolution they adopted (464 votes in favour, 58 against, 75 abstentions), MEPs denounced the conditions in which Ms Dahmani is being held (see EUROPE 13749/28). They also insisted that the Tunisian authorities protect freedom of assembly and expression, and guarantee judicial independence. The Parliament called on the EU institutions to express their deep concern regarding the deterioration of human rights in Tunisia and to pursue coordinated diplomatic action aimed at facilitating the release of political detainees.
