10/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On the initiative of Mounir Satouri (Greens/EFA, French), 45 MEPs from the Greens/EFA, The Left, S&D, Renew Europe and EPP groups wrote to the President of the European Commission, the EU High Representative and the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean on 7 November to “condemn the arbitrary detention of Sonia Dahmani and to demand her immediate and unconditional release”. The lawyer has been in prison since 11 May 2024 for “simply carrying out her profession and freely expressing her opinions”, according to the elected representatives. She will face a new trial on 11 November and risks ten years in prison. MEPs also want Ms Dahmani’s case and the wider issue of the repression of freedoms in Tunisia to be included in the political dialogue and cooperation programmes between the EU and Tunisia.
