10/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Danish Presidency of the EU Council was hoping for a provisional agreement with the European Parliament on the regulation modernising the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) on 15 October, but the negotiation meeting (‘trilogue’) has been postponed, according to our information. Negotiators have agreed on the principle of a robust safeguard for rice imports in recent weeks, following a solution proposed by the Danish Presidency (see EUROPE 13714/15). But they still have to negotiate the import volume thresholds for each country, beyond which the automatic safeguard will be triggered and tariffs re-imposed. The co-legislators hope to conclude these discussions with a view to a final ‘trilogue’ negotiation meeting in November. (LM)
