In a statement issued on Tuesday 7 October, ten associations representing the European railway sector called on the governments of the Member States and the members of the European Parliament to “provide unwavering support to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)”.
Passenger and freight transport operators, infrastructure and terminal managers, rolling stock lessors and rail equipment suppliers (AERRL, ALLRAIL, CER, CT4EU, EIM, ERFA, UIP, UITP, UIRR and UNIFE) have asked them for a “maintaining of its level of ambition” of the European Commission’s proposal concerning transport in the EU’s 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) published in July (see EUROPE 13683/3).
For the rail sector, this proposal is “a positive signal ”. The signatories welcomed this strategic approach and stressed the fundamental importance of guaranteeing sufficient funding for the deployment of interoperable systems on a European scale, in particular the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).
They also urged co-legislators to take action to ensure the timely completion of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) (see EUROPE 13712/7).
