On Tuesday, 7 October, the International Energy Agency (IEA) revised its global growth outlook on renewable capacity compared to last year downwards – mainly due to political changes in China and the United States.
Based on the 2025 report on renewables, it would therefore seem that the COP28 goal of tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 cannot be achieved after all (see EUROPE B13306A6). This capacity is, instead, expected to reach 2.6 times its 2022 level by 2030.
