07/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament approved, by 636 votes to 10 with 4 abstentions, the political agreement with the Council of the EU on the revised River Information Services Directive on Tuesday 7 October in Strasbourg. Obtained in June (see EUROPE 13668/16), this agreement will make it possible to digitise river information, such as notices to skippers and vessel tracking, by creating a single platform to manage communication on traffic, infrastructure and transport on inland waterways. These new rules will apply to inland waterways and ports forming part of a cross-border network linking at least two EU countries. Third countries whose waterways are linked to those of the EU will also be able to use the platform, provided they comply with data quality and cyber security requirements.
