After a humiliating summer on several fronts, Ursula von der Leyen will have to defend a new ambition for EU to MEPs

Will Ursula von der Leyen be able to breathe new life into her second mandate and, above all, restore her image among MEPs after a summer that was deemed a disaster for the EU by many of them?

This will be the focus of her State of the Union address to them on Wednesday 10 September, the first since the election of 'von der Leyen II' Commission in November 2024 (see EUROPE B13533A1).
