European Commission refers Cyprus to Court of Justice of EU for failure to comply with judgment on waste rules

On Wednesday 7 May, the European Commission decided to bring Cyprus before the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to comply with a 2013 judgment on the 1993 European directive governing the landfill of waste.

This judgment, which sets out requirements to prevent harmful effects on human health, water, soil and air, concerned the Vati landfill in Limassol and the Kotsiati landfill in Nicosia.
