07/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – Visiting Singapore on Wednesday 7 May, the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, and Singapore’s Minister for Trade Relations, Grace Fu Hai Yien, signed the first digital trade agreement. The two parties concluded negotiations in July 2024 (see EUROPE 13461/7). The agreement reaffirms the commitment of the EU and Singapore “to foster a secure and inclusive digital economy”, according to Mr Šefčovič and Ms Fu. “At the same time, the Agreement ensures that both the EU and Singapore preserve the necessary policy space to respond to emerging challenges,” they add. Since 2019, the two parties have been linked by a free trade agreement. (LM)
