13/05/24 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council adopted the provisional agreement with the European Parliament on the Regulation setting CO2 emission standards for new heavy-duty vehicles (see EUROPE 13331/15) on Monday 13 May at the ‘Education, Youth, Culture and Sport’ Council. It includes a roadmap that sets out to reduce emissions by 15% by 2025, 45% by 2030, 65% by 2035 and 90% by 2040 compared with 2020 levels. The European Parliament adopted the text in April (see EUROPE 13389/24). However, French, German and Nordic road freight representatives regretted the lack of greater technological neutrality and openness to other alternative fuels, in a statement in April (see EUROPE 13391/12). The effectiveness and impact of the amended regulation will be reviewed by the European Commission in 2027. To read the final text, go to https://aeur.eu/f/c5x (AD)
