13/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 May, the Council of the European Union adopted the two regulations suspending tariffs on imports from Ukraine and Moldova for a further year, also known as “autonomous trade measures”. Unlike the proposed regulation for Moldova, the one for Ukraine has been amended to add more safeguards for agricultural products (see EUROPE 13386/1). These new rules will come into force on 6 June, for one year. This measure will not be renewed for Ukraine. The Commission is in discussions with Kyiv to agree on a more permanent solution after June 2025, as part of the Association Agreement linking the EU and Ukraine. (LM)
