13/05/24 (Agence Europe) – During the ‘Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council’ meeting on Monday 13 May, the Council of the European Union raised no objections to the European Commission’s delegated act on the addition of raw materials for the production of biogas and biofuels. It thus endorsed the decision taken by the Permanent Representatives to the EU on 8 May. This delegated act concerning Annex IX of the Renewable Energy Directive (see EUROPE 13377/12) increases the number of raw materials listed for producing biofuels and biogas, in particular by including intermediate crops, such as ‘catch crops’, ‘cover crops’, and crops grown on severely degraded land. It also differentiates the regulatory treatment of the same raw materials according to their end use as fuel (either aviation or all other modes of transport).
