13/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 11 May, the European Green Party expressed its concern regarding the announcement made 3 days earlier by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, leader of the EPP-affiliated Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), about forming a new coalition with the right-wing nationalist party, the Patriotic Movement (DP). This alliance follows last month’s general election. Gordan Bosanac, the lead candidate for Croatian ecologist party Možemo!, denounced this rapprochement, citing the risks for minorities, women and workers. The ‘co-Spitzenkandidaten’ of the European Greens/EFA, Terry Reintke (German) and Bas Eickhout (Dutch), for their part, called for unity against collaboration with the extreme right, recalling the refusal of the European People’s Party (EPP) to sign a declaration on the matter, published on 8 May by the leaders of the Greens/EFA, the Socialists (S&D), the Liberals (Renew Europe) and The Left in the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13407/9).
