24/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – At its plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday 24 April, the European Parliament approved (by 570 votes to 36 with 24 abstentions) the provisional agreement with the Council of the EU on the Directive on the cross-border exchange of information on road safety offences (see EUROPE 13370/9). “The updated rules will help achieve this, but will also benefit drivers, who will receive information within a strict timeframe, in a language they understand and with a description of the appeals procedure”, welcomed the rapporteur, Kosma Złotowski (ECR, Polish), in a statement. To prevent fraud and leaks of personal data, the authorities will not be able to use private companies to collect fines. The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) approved the text at the end of March (see EUROPE 13378/33). To read the final text, go to https://aeur.eu/f/bxv (AD)
