EU Council validates agreement with European Parliament on exchange of information on road-safety-related traffic offences

25/03/24 (Agence Europe)The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) approved, on Wednesday 20 March, the agreement reached on Tuesday 12 March with the European Parliament on the Directive on the cross-border exchange of information on road-safety-related traffic offences (see EUROPE 13370/9). Under the provisional agreement, the scope of the Directive has been extended to include new offences: - not respecting vehicle access restrictions, or rules at a railway level-crossing; - crossing a continuous line; - dangerous overtaking; - dangerous parking; - wrong-way driving; - the use of overloaded vehicles; - hit and run cases. Member States will have eleven months to send out a notice of infringement. The text still has to be approved by the European Parliament before it comes into force.
