24/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – By adopting (461 votes in favour, 56 against and 66 abstentions) the report by Nathalie Colin-Oesterlé (EPP, French) on this dossier, the European Parliament, on Wednesday 24 April, approved the text of the agreement with the EU Council on the proposals on standards of quality and safety for substances of human origin (see EUROPE 13314/3). The EU Council still has to formally adopt the text before it can be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Member States will be able to compensate living donors of these substances, in accordance with the principle of voluntary and unpaid donation, and based on transparent criteria (non-financial forms of compensation). The conditions for this compensation will be established in national legislation. Promotion and advertising activities in support of donations must not refer to compensation. (LC)
