24/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – During its plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday 24 April, the European Parliament adopted by 381 votes to 225 with 17 abstentions the provisional agreement with the EU Council on new measures to improve ambient air quality (see EUROPE 13355/9). The EPP appeared very divided on this text. “By updating air quality standards, some of which were established nearly two decades ago, pollution will be halved across the EU, paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable future”, rapporteur Javi López (S&D, Spanish) told a press conference. “We are tackling the worst environmental threat to human health”, he added. The EU Council still has to adopt these rules before they can come into force. Read the texts adopted: https://aeur.eu/f/bxr (AD)
