Cargoroo, OpenAirlines, Blickfeld, Einride, TWAICE, Shotl, Karhoo, Cityscoot, Geovelo and K-Ryole were awarded the European Startup Prize for mobility on Thursday, 11 April in Brussels, following the ceremony with the 50 finalists.
This was the second edition of this prize, founded last year by Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, France), chairwoman of the European Parliament's ‘transport’ committee, to reward European startups active in clean and innovative mobility. In 2018, several companies had already been awarded prizes (see EUROPE 11968/14).
For 2019, the prize, sponsored this year by Prince Albert of Monaco, who also gave a speech on mobility at the final ceremony, saw 50 startups compete in the final for ten lucky winners (see EUROPE 12204/6). The prize includes a European tour to meet investors and future clients in Brussels, Paris, Brainport, Frankfurt and Barcelona. And for five of these ten winners, a specific development support program offered by the Boston Consulting Group and the law firms Grimaldi Studio Legale and Parallel Avocats.
“More mobility startups this year, have responded by validating our conviction that Europe can be the continent of innovation and the emancipation of talent for a better quality of life for all”, said Ms Delli at the end of the ceremony.
The Gold Award for the sponsorship programme went to Einride (Sweden), active in the autonomous electric vehicle, TWAICE (Germany), which provides battery predictive analysis software, Shotl (Spain), a mobility platform for public transport operators, Karhoo (UK), connecting taxi services with companies providing other types of services and Lovell (France), an application that guides cyclists.
