Victory of two telecommunications companies over Italian State could cost Italy's budget up to three billion EUR in lost profits and reimbursement of tax ruled illegal

Luxembourg, 19/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its "Albacom and Infostrada" ruling, the Court of Justice has banned Italy from forcing telecommunications companies to pay pecuniary charges based on their turn-over, solely because they possess an operating licence. The two companies were contesting the tax provided for in the 1998 finance laws.
