French aid to the coal industry authorised from 1998 to 2001 - Charbonnages de France must reimburse aid received in 1999 and 2000

Brussels, 25/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Commission authorised French aid to the coal industry for the years 1998 to 2001 for the sum of EUR 5.9 million, to be used for cutting back on activity. France, however, must recover aid amounting to EUR 4.5 million granted to Charbonnages de France for the years 1999 and 2000.
