25/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz has called for the reforms that the European Union is asking of Turkey - especially with regard to human rights - to be approved before the next elections are held. After a meeting with the leaders of the different parties (including the party for a new Turkey under Ismail Cem, the outgoing Foreign Minister), Mr Yilmaz regretted the tepid support expressed by his colleagues for such reform. The Turkish parliament is to give its stance on Monday on the date of early elections, which should take place on 3 November.
