Brussels, 25/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance has published four new reports on racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance.
Intolerance and racial prejudice with regard to immigrants and minorities such as the Roma is clear in many areas in Finland, such as in employment and accommodation, points out ECRI. Russian-speakers in Latvia are often excluded from social structures and decision-making because of the lack of full anti-discrimination legislation, notes ECRI. In Malta, discrimination is often found in entrance policies for bars and discos, where prejudice and stereotypes have to be taken on to prevent them being expressed more overtly, recommends the Commission against Racism and Intolerance. It points out that in the Ukraine, immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees encounter open racism in various aspects of daily life and there is no coherent anti-discrimination legislation in the country.
