ECB is to keep main interest rate unchanged - Wim Duisenberg refuses to comment on whether (and when) he might be resigning

Brussels, 11/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) decided on Wednesday not to change its main interest rate in the face of pressure to cut rates given the slowdown of the European economy. The benchmark interest rate for main refinancing operations will remain at 4.75%, and the marginal lending facility and deposit facility will remain unchanged at 5.75% and 3.75% respectively.
