South Africa's Oppenheimer family will be paid up to USD 15 million a year to run the DE BEERS diamond group (turnover of USD 4.8 billion forecast for 2001) after its USD 17.6 billion takeover bid was accepted by British mining company ANGLO AMERICAN. The Oppenheimer family company, CENTRAL HOLDINGS LTD, and ANGLO AMERICAN will each emerge with 45% of the diamond miner, with DEBSWANA DIAMOND COMPANY, jointly owned by DE BEERS and the government of Botswana, holding the remaining 10%.
