11/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The transition period for the free movement of workers after countries in line for EU membership have been admitted should be as short as possible", Isabelle Durant, the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, and Transport Minister, said during her official visit to Poland. "An overly long period could create a series of problems linked to illegal immigration", says Ms Durant, who has announced that Belgium is preparing its position on this matter in the countdown to its EU Presidency, starting on 1 July. During talks with the Polish Transport Minister, Jerzy Widzyk, Ms Durant stressed the need to "consider developing combined transport networks (train air, road and sea) for Poland ".
