ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) telecommunications

US operator WORLDCOM is to acquire INTERMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS for a total of $6 billion (including takeover of debt of $3 billion). Its main interest in INTERMEDIA is so that it can hold a 54% stake in DIGEX, a specialist in website hosting. The operation will be carried out on the basis of $39 per share.
