(EU) EP/ENLARGEMENT: This Wednesday Mr Prodi and Mr Verheugen will talk before Parliament

Strasbourg, 05/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The statements by Gunter Verheugen on the enlargement of the EU (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.9) raised immediate reactions within the European Parliament. The President of the EPP group, the German Hans-Gert Pöttering, was the first to ask for the Commission (preferably its President) come to explain to the Parliament the meaning of the statement by Mr Verheugen on the opportunity of holding a referendum on enlargement in Germany.
