Brussels, 18/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to initiate an in-depth investigation (four months) into plans for the acquisition by Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi (Italian group Pirelli S.p.A.) of the production plants of US cable manufacturer BICC General located in the UK and Italy. It will be recalled that this Pirelli subsidiary active in the manufacture and sale of general wiring and power cables bid EUR 372 million in early February for BICC.
