70 companies and associations call for appropriate EU framework to promote energy efficiency in building sector

As part of the ‘Renovate Europe’ day in Copenhagen on Monday 3 November, 70 companies and associations pledged, in a declaration entitled ‘The Copenhagen Commitment’, to work “actively” towards agreements and policies supporting a more efficient and affordable housing stock in the EU.

This statement was presented to the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen. The signatories stress that ensuring an adequate regulatory framework enables industry to “invest further in the manufacturing capacity of energy efficient products and technologies, providing employment across EU regions and accelerating economic growth while making the EU less dependent on imports”.

Citing several studies, the declaration states that the EU's energy efficiency industrial ecosystem generates around €150 billion in annual turnover, and for every 1% improvement in energy efficiency, gas imports are reduced by 2.6%.

Signatories include companies such as Schneider Electric and Daikin, and associations such as Eurima (European Insulation Manufacturers Association) and the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC).
