On Monday 3 November, the European Commission announced €2.9 billion in funding for 61 innovative technological projects aimed at achieving climate neutrality. This funding follows the first ‘IF24’ call from the Innovation Fund, launched in December 2024 (https://aeur.eu/f/j9l ).
Funded by revenues from the Emissions Trading System (ETS), this programme aims to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership and accelerate the deployment of decarbonisation solutions.
The selected projects cover 18 countries and 19 industrial sectors, including energy-intensive industries, renewable energies, storage, clean mobility, buildings, cleantech manufacturing and industrial carbon management.
They should make it possible to reduce 221 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over their first decade of implementation, equivalent to the annual emissions of around 9.9 million European cars.
The promoters will now embark on the phase of preparing grant agreements with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), with the results of this process expected in the first half of 2026.
