03/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – Following the adoption by the United Nations Security Council last Friday of a decisive resolution supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a spokesman for the European External Action Service reiterated on Monday 3 November the European Union’s support for the UN-led political process. “The EU welcomes the extension of MINURSO’s [United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, Editor’s note] mandate until 31 October 2026 and stands ready to support the negotiations led by the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura”, Anouar El Anouni told journalists. “The EU’s common position is without prejudice to the individual positions of the Member States of the European Union”, the spokesman said.
