EU mobilises €21.5 million for Central America in wake of Hurricane Melissa

03/11/2025 (Agence Europe)On Monday 3 November, the European Commission announced the mobilisation of €21.5 million in humanitarian aid to help people hit by Hurricane Melissa and by the continuing crises in Venezuela and Haiti. Up to €14.5 million will be used to mitigate the effects of the Venezuelan crisis, including in neighbouring countries such as Colombia, with a focus on protection, health and nutrition. A €5 million package will support the emergency response to the hurricane in Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti, where the EU’s humanitarian partners are already distributing water, hygiene kits and shelter, while the European Union is preparing airlifts and the deployment of equipment with the Civil Protection Mechanism. The remaining €2 million will be used to help victims of the ongoing crisis in Haiti. (BD)
