14/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 April, the EU Council approved the signing of the digital trade agreement (DTA) with Singapore, a few months after it was presented by the European Commission (see EUROPE 13573/26). This agreement, which is the first of its kind, complements the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, which came into force in 2019. It should further connect the two economies, notably by reducing administrative burdens and increasing predictability and legal certainty for businesses (see EUROPE 13461/7). In 2022, around half (€43 billion) of the total trade in services between the EU and Singapore was carried out digitally. The European Parliament must also give its consent before the text can be officially ratified. (IS)
