14/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 April, the Council of the EU formally adopted the ‘Stop the Clock’ Directive, the very first omnibus text under this mandate. This text postpones the directives on sustainable corporate reporting (CSRD) and corporate due diligence (CSDDD) by two and one years, respectively. This rapid adoption was made possible thanks to a compromise reached, both between EU Member States and between MEPs, to keep the Commission’s proposal as it stands (see EUROPE 13614/6). The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU has welcomed this first step at a time when it has made simplification one of its priorities. Further work is likely to be more complex, particularly as regards changes to obligations under the CSRD and CSDDD. (LM)
