On Monday 14 April, the Council of the EU concluded the review of the EU framework for the control of arms exports by adopting a decision amending the Council’s position on common rules governing the control of exports of military technology and equipment and by approving conclusions on this subject, according to a press release.
The conclusions “reaffirm the EU’s commitment to a responsible and transparent arms trade, to the prevention of diversion of arms to unintended use by terrorists, criminals and other unauthorised users, and to building convergence of Member States’ national arms export policies within the framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy”.
The Council expresses its commitment to continuing the EU’s efforts to promote the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and its ratification.
The updated User’s Guide for licensing officers in the Member States has also been revised. EU arms deliveries to Ukraine were one of the factors behind this review. The EU Council’s decision has not been made public.
