14/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – EU revenue from non-recycled plastic packaging waste is on the agenda for the next meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, scheduled for 23 April. At a time when the European Commission and the European Parliament are advocating the adoption of new own resources (see EUROPE 13604/2), MEPs will welcome Lefteris Christoforou from the European Court of Auditors, who will present his report (see EUROPE 13483/2) on the revenues generated using this own resource since it was adopted in 2021. In September 2024, the ECA revealed that the ‘plastic tax’ had generated more than €7 billion for the EU budget in 2023, which was 4% of total EU revenue. MEPs from the European Parliament’s Environment Committee will be invited to take part in the discussion. (FS)
