14/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 April, the EU Council adopted a decision formally concluding an agreement between the EU and Canada on the transfer and use of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data (see EUROPE 13598/25, 13582/11). The agreement defines the conditions for the transfer of PNR data from the EU to Canada for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences or serious transnational crimes. PNR data is collected by airlines on the basis of information provided by passengers at the time of booking (passenger name, travel dates, itineraries, seat number, baggage, contact details or means of payment). The maximum data retention period is five years. The European Parliament validated the agreement on 12 March. (SP)
